The story is presented in six volumes that completely immerse you in the Neo-Tokyo landscape envisioned by Katsuhiro Otomo, the writer and illustrator. The detail in the artwork for one doesn’t seem possible, the intricacies are devastatingly impressive.

And once I opened that thing up, I was astounded. He explained to me that Akira was THE story to read first, if I wanted to get into mangas. That event was receiving Akira Volume 1 from my friend Brandon Sprouse. Similar to how I became interested in electronic music, one event led to an explosion of rabid interest. When it comes to anime/manga, I had no knowledge of it growing up or as an adult up until very recently, except for Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555. But I never had an appreciation or interest in the animations themselves, or the drawings involved. Doug, Hey Arnold!, Invader Zim, Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life and such. I grew up watching a lot of cartoons from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel.
DD YU YU HAKUSHO OPENING SERIES
This series has encouraged me to take this power seriously, aiming to use it for the greatest good. I visualize shooting this energy out into the universe, and honing my craft for greater impact. My spirit gun represents this condensed fire, including all my efforts over the years as an artist. I think about all my thoughts and actions as having spiritual energy. Powered up, it’s blasted through one’s finger tips. It takes spiritual energy and concentrates it into the user’s hand. There’s a fighting technique in Yu Yu called The Spirit Gun. I’m not gonna’ analyze it all right here, in case you haven’t watched the show, but there’s one connection I will give away.

Whether it be the characters, or some theme reflected in my reality. Since watching those 112 “Ghost Files”, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, I think about some element daily. I’m a little late to the party, but when I attach it’s fast and powerful. I can say that no other series has impacted me as greatly as Yu Yu Hakusho.
